I cook and do garden stuff too and like looking at paintings, audiobooks, football and radio as well.

  3. Hi there, I look at it as a disclaimer of sorts haha as I am still very new to poetry and all its different forms etc…

    It’s a pleasure to meet you 🙂 Haiku is great, I really enjoy them too, I like to write them first then try to find a picture or painting that captures it best. Cool, I have a list of lots of my favourite films, tv shows, paintings and poetry as well as a new istory blog called the chronicle which I am trying to update daily.

    1. Hi Peter, the three poems I read on your blog were amazing, they just roll off the tongue and sound so natural in their flow. On economy and the poet in particular, I really enjoyed them. Cool story, I always thought it sounded german, I got it from the playstation 2 game Timesplitters 2, it was either Gretl or R-108 🙂 thanks for stopping by as well and checking out my page i’m looking forward to your next poem.

  11. I like how you describe your own writing in a very humble way…but I wouldn’t use the word nonsense! 🙂

    I’m really enjoying your verses, especially The Strangest Thing. I have also listened to a few of your videos on youtube. You wanted a word about what we think. I think that you might want to slow down just a wee bit. Take your time with your beautiful words so that we can absorb them and understand them better. You have a lot to say.

    1. Nice one, thanks for reading and viewing. I’m quite uncomfortable reading poetry so I think it’s just my nervousness overcoming me, I’m going to repost nowhere dreams as I do think that one in particular is read far too quickly especially the last two lines:)

  17. Enjoying the humour in here. Like your style. One word about iambic pentameter, which I love by the war, is don’t count syllables! Feel the scan – Di-dah-di-dah-Di-dah-Di-dah-Di-dah … count how many there are in the first three lines in the second stanza of “Little Big Man”; it shouldn’t work but it does. Have a read of any of William Shakespeare’s plays and see how loose his count seems to be sometimes; but it works.

    1. Thanks this really helps 🙂 I’ll totally check these out, the internet is full of so much stuff it’s hard to know where to even start sometimes. I also find it difficult to identify what certain poems are sometimes or is this just free verse?

      The Shakespeares I have read is really just poetry and they just roll off the tongue really nicely. I know the plays like Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet and I think there is maybe a Richard or Henry in there somewhere too 🙂

      I was confused I thought you meant the Rabindranath Tagore poem which I looked up and read (turns out it was totally amazing so thanks for that) and then also read the correct one which I really enjoyed as well.

      Haha the name gretl is actually taken from an old playstation 2 game called timesplitters, but the Hansel reference has come up many a time 🙂

  28. Of my own insecurities regarding my spewing of words I have been told that the difference between a good poet and someone who should just shut up is at least 2,000 attempts.
    I’ve also heard that the mantra of National Geographic photographers is “You have to take a thousand pictures to get a single good one.”

    I use those words to comfort myself, often. Anyhow, thanks for writing. Glad to know there are still those of out there sharpening this particular sword.

    1. No problem at all. Doubt is always there, I just write so I have something, be it complete rubbish, decent or mind blowing genius, at least it’s something I can call my own.

      Also everything here is just part of the journey to gathering a better understanding of poetry, my sonnet section is a good point of reference for what I mean. The first few are loose sonnets at best when thinking of metre, rhytmn and structure, the next couple are better, an improvement I think and the latest one is a vast improvement that adheres to the rules of a sonnet in many ways so I think if you’re willing to learn you are onto a winner so I wouldn’t worry too much.

      Being a good poet is something that I leave for other people to decide, I just like working towards my goal of achieving something I can call my own and has had a decent reaction.

      That would be very satisfying. Anyway, best of luck and thanks for visiting letters and notes.

    1. Hi, it’s just from an old computer game I used to play called timesplitters 2 for the ps2. It was a cyborg charachter I used to go. A lot of people think it’s from a movie but I can’t remember the name of it.
